Monday 8 April   Celebrating Alexandre Guilmant

This programme showcases some of the great organ music byAlexandre Guilmant, a Parisian  composerand  virtuoso organist who travelledwidely during his career, including in the USA and  England.  The programme includes his well-known March on a theme of Handel,  his transcription of Saint-Saëns’s The Swan and his mighty Sonata no. 5 in C minor which will sound particularlydramatic on the Usher Hall organ.

Monday 15 April   Music by J.S. Bach

Bach is recognised as the greatestof all composers of organ music, and this programme pays tribute to him byoffering a cross-section of music,  notall originally for organ.   We will hearan Italian concerto transcription,  themonumental Prelude and Fugue in C minor BWV 546,  the celebrated Jesu,  joy of man’s desiring aswell as some seasonal organ chorales.  Inlighter vein,  the programme will includethe ‘Jig’ Fugue, and the Air and Gavotte from the Orchestral Suite in D.
