Monday 2 September Les Grands orgues Monday 16 September Baroque concertos Monday 30 September A programme of audience requests Also: Monday 9 December
A programme of French Romantic organ music, written by some of the great Parisian composers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. We hear Guilmant's Grand Choeur in D, the grandiose Marcia from Widor's Third Symphony, Franck's serene Pastorale, and works by Saint-Saëns including an excerpt from the finale of the famous 'Organ' Symphony.
This programme will include tuneful and lively organ concertos by Handel and John Stanley, as well as 18th-century transcriptions of Italian concertos by Meck and Torelli—composers much influenced by Vivaldi. Also included will be the Largo from 'Winter' (from The Four Seasons) by Vivaldi himself.
John will once again be looking for more suggestions from audience members!
